📣 No procrastination + no perfectionism = Growth and Success 💪
My 10 year old has a birthday party this weekend and this is the first time we asked him to wrap the birthday present himself.
As soon as he began, my instinct was to jump in to help and correct and fix - but fortunately, better sense prevailed and I curbed my impulses 😂
He was so happy to do it - he watched videos and then he tried a few different ways to wrap the gift (it's a book). He was oozing accomplishment once he was done - he also drew characters on the wrapping paper that his friend would understand and like.
To my eye, the gift looks far from perfect, but that's not the point - he started, he got the job done with his own unique spin - and the more he does it, the better he'll become!
📣 He embodied a Beginner's Mindset and a Growth Mindset - without even knowing these concepts.
To get the idea off the ground is a large part of the work I do with founders.
However, Procrastination and Perfectionism become barriers not only when you are trying to get something off the ground but also when you are looking to grow and scale.
One of the ways I see this play out is when founders look for their first few hires and seek an exact replica of themselves - who will do things their way.
While it is critical to have proper onboarding and training processes in place - through SOPs, training videos, daily check-ins, etc: it's even more important to remember that we need to let go off the need to have people do things our way if we want to grow our businesses.
We need to inspire and motivate the team - and give them space to bring their own flair and wisdom to the tasks to be done.
And it starts with letting go of Perfectionism. And not Procrastinating on the hire 😉
So tell me - where is Procrastination and Perfectionism stopping you from living the life that you dream of?
