4 days in and he has cried twice already!

My 6 year old has just started big school and he is feeling overwhelmed - during break time, there are too many children and they all want to play with the same things. The playground is too big and he gets lost. A couple of kids have said mean things to him on the school bus, using language we don’t allow at home.

As a mother, my first instinct was to step in, protect him, fix things for him but I realise that he needs to learn how to navigate the school (and the world) on his own. He needs to figure out how to be strong yet kind, how to see the good in people and find allies, how to stand up for himself, stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves and not take anything personally.

This is of course very easy to say but very hard to do - at 42, I am still learning how to do this well.

Every day I wake up, I have 2 choices - I can see the world as dark, fearful, full of suffering and regret the decision to bring children into it OR as a benevolent universe - full of miracles, blessings and abundance - with wonderful opportunities and helpful people everywhere.

👉 How my day goes depends on what choice I make. And as a founder, it’s the same choice we need to make daily.

Are you dreading dealing with your customers, looking at your P&L, managing your team?

Are you excited to improve your product every day and thus, actively seek feedback?

Are you grateful for the money you are making, the money you are spending and looking to make and spend more - for better service and greater impact?

Do you appreciate your team and the support you have to make things happen daily?

Of course, action is needed for results but it all begins with mindset 💡

Coming back to my son - he soldiers on and each day is better than the day before. I often ponder: how is it that I learn more from him than I teach him 🤔
